Before going to New York City to pursue theatre, Randall went to Northwestern University but left after a year. Afterward, he attended New York City’s Neighborhood Playhouse School of the Theatre.

Tony’s career took off as a radio station WTAG announcer in Worcester, Massachusetts. Subsequently, Randall was a member of the United States Army Signal Corps in World War II. And after the war had ended, he returned to New York City.

Tony Randall began working in Montgomery County’s Olney Theatre after the war had ended. But eventually, he headed back to New York City with the hope of becoming a successful actor. His wish was fulfilled when he played the character Reggie in the 1940s radio series titled Love a Mystery. From 1947 to 1948, Tony made appearances on Broadway in Antony and Cleopatra. This golden opportunity allowed him to work on television series like One Man’s Family.

In 1952, Tony’s first major break was Mister Peepers, a television serial where he performed the character of Harvey Weskit, a history teacher. This show aired for almost 3 years, from 1952 to 1955. By this time his popularity was at the top that he replaced another American actor Gig Young in the Broadway called Oh, Men! Oh, Women! This show was a total hit and broadcasted in 1954.
